The annual OATA professional development events include keynote speakers and presentations by Key Opinion Leaders in the topic area including Orthopaedic Surgeons, medical researchers in the field, case studies presented by seasoned multi-disciplinary practitioners including Physiotherapists, Osteopathic Manual Practitioners, Sport Massage Therapists and Athletic Therapists renowned in the practice domain.
The OATA has been running, with much success, a series of annual Joint-Related Summits. The April 2020 Ankle Summit developed in alliance with the Ontario Podiatric medical Association had to be postponed due to COVID-19. A decision will be made during the month of July 2020 to proceed with a virtual version of the Summit or hope to have it at a venue with strict COVID social distancing and hygiene practices.
The OATA is working on a Concussion Summit for 2021. Again, a decision will be made by Fall 2020 on its format. The annual summits are well-attended by ATs as well as peer professionals. Continuing Education Credits are provided to Members as part of mandatory professional development requirements. The previously organized Taking Care of AT Business workshops are being redeveloped into Virtual Information Meetings via Zoom.
